Great book。 Hell of an inspiration。

This book is extraordinary。 I had watched the series on TV ("14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible") just before it came out, so I didn't expect for the book to do more than fill in the details。 It was a delightful surprise that Nimsdai gives readers the gift of both his voice and vision- he not only shares personal details about how he and his team accomplished this feat- he includes his insights about humanity and what it truly means。I thought this would be a book about mountaineering, and it is, bu This book is extraordinary。 I had watched the series on TV ("14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible") just before it came out, so I didn't expect for the book to do more than fill in the details。 It was a delightful surprise that Nimsdai gives readers the gift of both his voice and vision- he not only shares personal details about how he and his team accomplished this feat- he includes his insights about humanity and what it truly means。I thought this would be a book about mountaineering, and it is, but even more so it is a book about the human spirit, expectations, community, and on a deeper level how we are all connected。 He is a brilliant writer and has a style that is personal。 Reading this felt like reading a letter from an old friend。 I found myself wrapping up snugly in a warm blanket as I read descriptions of crevasses and hiking through deep snow。 I had tissues nearby for times when I read about lives lost。 It was intense hearing a first-hand account of daily life and death in the death zone as Nimsdai and his team work their way up and down massive mountains, 14 times。 In 6 months。 6 Months。 The fact he accomplished this in such a short timeframe is a testament to what humans are capable of。 I am absolutely inspired。 Thank you, Nimsdai, for shattering what we thought was possible。 I dare say that you are a catalyst for human evolution。 。。。more

Great read For me the more interesting part of the book was the first 2 thirds for me。 The story about his journey to start the 14 peaks and the first 6 or 7 peaks was the most gripping, perhaps as these are the most "well known" peaks。 A great read, really enjoyed it。 Great read For me the more interesting part of the book was the first 2 thirds for me。 The story about his journey to start the 14 peaks and the first 6 or 7 peaks was the most gripping, perhaps as these are the most "well known" peaks。 A great read, really enjoyed it。 。。。more

I give three stars just because of the style this book was written in。 I am a huge fan of mountaineering but the message conveyed here, at least how I felt it, was “I am great and everybody else sucks hard”。 The story and the achievement itself are second to none, undoubtedly, but somehow the book lacked depth…I believe one could write 14 books based on that madness named “Project possible” to say the least…and here in 300 pages I was left with the impression of a person who is deeply concerned I give three stars just because of the style this book was written in。 I am a huge fan of mountaineering but the message conveyed here, at least how I felt it, was “I am great and everybody else sucks hard”。 The story and the achievement itself are second to none, undoubtedly, but somehow the book lacked depth…I believe one could write 14 books based on that madness named “Project possible” to say the least…and here in 300 pages I was left with the impression of a person who is deeply concerned only about himself and how he did everything perfectly, unlike others。 Hats down, Nims, you rock but the book seemed to me a bit rushed。 。。。more

As a relative couch potato in the pandemic, I admittedly enjoy reading all kinds of adventuring books, and Beyond Possible by Nims Purja is no exception。 Capturing his attempt to summit the 14 highest peaks in the world in less than eight months, supported by his Sherpa team, it is an inspirational feat。 Yes, he brags and parties, but he also has the receipts, and also had to the hustle to be able to raise the money for this record AND to get through China to complete it。 If you enjoy nonficture As a relative couch potato in the pandemic, I admittedly enjoy reading all kinds of adventuring books, and Beyond Possible by Nims Purja is no exception。 Capturing his attempt to summit the 14 highest peaks in the world in less than eight months, supported by his Sherpa team, it is an inspirational feat。 Yes, he brags and parties, but he also has the receipts, and also had to the hustle to be able to raise the money for this record AND to get through China to complete it。 If you enjoy nonficture adventure, I recommend Beyond Possible。An ARC was graciously provided by Netgalley in exchange for an unbiased review。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

As others have said this could have been a tremendous book, sadly it is not。 I struggled to finish reading it, as with each summit attempt an outpouring of crude psychology reiterated time and time again the inner turmoil of the writer。 Descriptions of the climb, and the characters of others on the incredible journey were scant。 I finished the book and was left feeling short changed。 It is a real ego trip rather than a saga of one of the greatest feats in mountaineering history。 It made me turn As others have said this could have been a tremendous book, sadly it is not。 I struggled to finish reading it, as with each summit attempt an outpouring of crude psychology reiterated time and time again the inner turmoil of the writer。 Descriptions of the climb, and the characters of others on the incredible journey were scant。 I finished the book and was left feeling short changed。 It is a real ego trip rather than a saga of one of the greatest feats in mountaineering history。 It made me turn to my bookshelf for my copy of The Shining Mountain, a book that established a new standard in mountain literature。 。。。more

Fans of Jon Krakauer's _into the Wild_ (and other adventure reads in this vein) will undoubtedly enjoy Nims Purja's _Beyond Possible_。 (It actually probably helped that I'd read _Into the Wild_ previously, as it prepped me for some of the content here--both in adventuring, and in, frankly, bad language。 But this one lacked the crudeness of Krakauer's, which I am grateful for。)It took me a bit to get into, partly due to the aforementioned language: it's like Krakauer, as mentioned, or--to channel Fans of Jon Krakauer's _into the Wild_ (and other adventure reads in this vein) will undoubtedly enjoy Nims Purja's _Beyond Possible_。 (It actually probably helped that I'd read _Into the Wild_ previously, as it prepped me for some of the content here--both in adventuring, and in, frankly, bad language。 But this one lacked the crudeness of Krakauer's, which I am grateful for。)It took me a bit to get into, partly due to the aforementioned language: it's like Krakauer, as mentioned, or--to channel a movie reference, the _Speed_ of books--action packed, and gripping for sure, but holy smokes, can the f-bombs stop already?--enough that I nearly set the read aside several times。 Then, it was partly due to my own wonderings of "the point" aside from chronicling his endeavors。 Admirable--absolutely! I simply felt that the first half of the book, in particular, illustrated the wide divide between my own mindset and Purja's。 (Which I didn't even fully articulate until now。) He really is in a class by himself!Challenging as it was, at times, I did regularly find encouragement to persevere through tough times (even though they'll inevitably be very different from his)--tough love, as it were。 Several parts also saw me waiting with bated breath to find out what happened。 Would permits be granted for the elusive 14th peak? Would he summit (I asked several times)? Would his mom's health last through to see him finish his quest? #allthequestionsPurja really is a talented writer, language aside。 I was also challenged a bit as a reader with a very different worldview--he is not religious, while I am a Christian。 I kept thinking, were I on any of these summits, how could they not testify to the existence of a Creator--at the very least? Nature has long testified of God's existence to me, and I hope that one day Purja sees the same。 There were also several references to "finding your truth," and I'll freely admit that phrase frustrates me to no end, heh。Would I recommend the book? Cautiously, yes, given the caveats above。 Am I glad I persevered and finished it? Yes。3。5 stars out of 5。I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

An incredible achievement, totally off the charts inspirational。 The book itself is very basically written, and a little repetitive as a read。 But does give insight into the man on this mission, and what it takes to achieve the almost impossible。
